Updates to VoP Handling for Non-Euro SEPA Jurisdictions

We are updating the Verification of Payee (VoP) logic for EUR payouts to non-euro SEPA countries to align with the extended compliance deadlines set by the Instant Payments Regulation (IPR).

🔄 What is Changing?

Previously, payments to beneficiaries in certain jurisdictions were blocked if the receiving bank had not yet implemented VoP capabilities.

Effective January 14, 2026, if a beneficiary bank in an affected country is unable to respond to a VoP request, the check will no longer cause the payment to fail. Instead:

The system will return a new status:

 "status": "EXEMPT"

The payout will continue to process normally to ensure uninterrupted service.

🌍 Affected Countries

This change applies to PSPs in non-euro SEPA countries where VoP implementation is not mandatory until July 2027. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • United Kingdom (GB),
  • Switzerland (CH),
  • Poland (PL),
  • Sweden (SE),
  • Norway (NO),
  • Romania (RO),
  • Czech Republic (CZ),
  • Denmark (DK).

🛠 Technical Impact

New API Value: You may now receive EXEMPT in the status field of the API response from verification endpoint.

Expiry: This technical exception is scheduled to expire on 09 July 2027, at which point VoP checks will become mandatory for these regions.
